360 Health: What it is and why it matters

I've recently finished writing my first book titled 360 Health: Your Guide to Cancer Prevention, Healing Foods, & Total Body Wellness. I was inspired to write the book after working in a hospital and caring for many individuals who suffered from the effects of cancer. Cancer also hit close to home this past year when, sadly, my mother-in-law passed away from the disease.

I've always been interested in nutrition and food's effects on the body. On my quest to find the best "diet" and to learn about food sources that nourish and sustain us, I discovered the concept of "anti-angiogenic" foods. These foods can literally stop cancer growth from occurring. They inhibit blood vessel formation to tumors or potentially cancerous cells. When eaten in conjunction with an overall anti-inflammatory diet, anti-angiogenic foods can heal us and prolong our lives.

A large part of health is nutrition. However, other factors play in to our overall wellness. We need to try and avoid some of the harmful toxins in the world around us. This is no easy feat since we are inundated with chemicals ... in our food (pesticides, hormones, antibiotics), in our beauty products, in household cleaners, in textiles, in our air, and even in our water. We need ways to detoxify our bodies. It is in this detoxification process that we can begin to heal.

We also need to find effective stress relief. Tactics like yoga, prayer, mediation, gratitude journaling, and spending quality time with loved ones becomes a necessary part of healthcare.

Like a full circle, which is 360 degrees, our health must be well-rounded, encompassing body, mind, and spirit. We need to care for all parts ourselves. This is the secret to a long and healthy life.

If we can learn to eat well, sleep well, avoid toxins, and be good to ourselves, our bodies can become healthier than we ever imagined. We can ward off disease for a very long time and feel great along the way.
