Featured Guest Post: Jason Maravich
Jason Maravich is our first male Health & Wellness guest, and I couldn't be more excited! If the name looks familiar, that's because Jason is my nephew. He was not selected to be featured for that reason, however. Jason is an incredible role model in the fitness industry and is a determined and hard-working man of integrity. Things are exciting in his life right now as he has a new career focus as well as a new baby with his lovely wife Alyssa. I think you'll enjoy reading more about him. Tell Us a Little Bit About Yourself
I live in Williamsburg, Virginia with my wife Alyssa and newborn daughter Lily. I am currently the Head Trainer/Manager of Burn Boot Camp - Williamsburg, opening March 2018. I have been in the fitness industry for nearly 10 years, most recently serving as an Area Director for group personal training in the VA Beach area.
Tell Us About Your Role in the Health and Wellness Industry. Why is this such a passion for you?
My current role is to establish health transformations in my community by empowering women to embrace lasting lifestyle changes based on health, nutrition, and fitness. My daughter is my inspiration to create a culture of Mentally, Emotionally, and Physically Strong Women to provide an example for her to follow.
WHAT IS ONE THING OR EVENT THAT HAS TRANSFORMED YOUR LIFE IN THE BIGGEST WAY?
The day that I decided to make health and fitness my career. I had been working jobs with no future or that brought no joy to my life. Ever since I have been working in fitness, I have felt such pride daily seeing the improvement of the lives of the individuals I have trained.
HOW DO YOU SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY?
Soon, along with the help of the Burn Boot Camp community, we will be able to serve by choosing one cause per month to support; giving back to the community around us.
WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION AND WHY?
It is hard to choose one individual that has been my biggest inspiration. As BJ Neblett said, “We are the sum total of our experiences. Those experiences – be they positive or negative – make us the person we are, at any given point in our lives. And, like a flowing river, those same experiences, and those yet to come, continue to influence and reshape the person we are, and the person we become. None of us are the same as we were yesterday, nor will be tomorrow.”
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN? ANY GUILTY PLEASURES?
For fun, I love to take family walks around Colonial Williamsburg with our dog Brisco or visit Busch Gardens right down the road. Guilty pleasure… Taco Bell!
WHAT ARE SOME TIPS YOU WOULD GIVE SOMEONE TRYING TO OPTIMIZE THEIR HEALTH?
- Consistency! Do something every day that will take you one step closer to where you want to be.
- Perseverance! Keep working toward your goal. Take it one day at a time. "Rome wasn't built in a day."
- Drink water! All day, every day.
- Don't procrastinate! Get it done. Unless you are thinking of taking a day off ... procrastinate on that; put off your rest day until tomorrow or the next, then put it off again.
